Keeping in Fashion on a Budget

In this age of austerity, it can be difficult to pay the bills let alone worry about keeping in fashion. However to all the fashionistas out there – don’t fret! There are ways to keep in fashion whilst not breaking the bank. Here are a few of my tips for shopping on a budget.

Scour second hand shops.

Good will shops have lately become very trendy places to shop. With the recent ‘vintage’ clothing craze, many young stylish people can be found there scouring for their latest treasure. These shops are not only extremely cheap (I bought a beautiful skirt and funky singlet for 7 dollars!), but they are also there to help the needy. Most shops donate a big percentage of their profits (if not all) to various charities. So you can keep in fashion whilst knowing that you are also doing a very good deed! Not so excited about the latest ‘vintage’ craze? Not to worry – Most of these shops are also filled with designer bargains – You’ve just got to be prepared to spend some time searching!

Invest in a sewing machine

You can find very cheap second hand sewing machines online (I bought mine on Craigslist) and get in touch with your creative side! There are countless videos on Youtube that explain step by step how to sew many different things. I have loved getting in touch with my creative side and making things exactly fit to my specific body shape as well as my taste. There are many different material shops around and you can find good quality materials for very cheap – Just look online for your local shop!

Shop online

There are many new websites that have been launched for people who want to stay in fashion on a strict budget. These websites buy designer shops ‘seconds’ (clothes that have very small faults – maybe the colour is not exactly what they wanted or there is a miniscule, unnoticeable tear in the fabric) and these websites then sell them for a heavily discounted price (some even up to 80% off!) Also, sites such as groupon.com regularly have offers for good quality clothes for very cheap. Apart from those, you can find many beautiful second hand pieces on Ebay that people are selling. You will have to invest a lot of time searching but in the end it will be worth it! Some of my most beautiful pieces have come from Ebay for very cheap! One mans trash is another mans treasure as they say!

Whilst some may think that staying in fashion whilst on a tight budget is impossible, there are certainly ways that you can make it happen. Get in touch with your creative side and bring out the fashionista in you! All for a tiny percentage of your wage so you can invest your money where it’s needed! Happy shopping ladies – I’ll see you at the good will store! 🙂
