I live by the saying, “Use money where you spend most of your time.”
So, considering we spend close to a third of our lives in bed or asleep, choosing a lousy mattress can be quite damaging when it comes to your health. Even so, not all of us have the budget to get the highest quality mattress.
Today, I would like to show you how you can get the right mattress at the most affordable price.
I recently sat down with some orthopedists and chiropractors, and they shared some interesting information. I’ll take you through some of their best tips to choosing a mattress!
Do Thorough Research and Don’t Forget to Go With a Suitable Budget
The first thing that you’ll need to do before going mattress shopping is deciding how much you want to spend – this helps avoid paying too much.
Most importantly, it will help you buy a mattress which you can afford while avoiding other accessories from ‘notorious’ mattress stores.
In mattress stores, the company’s salespersons will try to sell you mattress toppers, bed frames, and other unnecessary additions to your purchase.
Which Mattress is Best for You?
Mattress retailers and manufacturers have several names for the various types of mattresses. So, I was shocked to learn that there are only a few basic types. They include:
- Memory foam – these models take up the shape of your body. However, they can get quite warm during the night. So, if you prefer a cool sleeping surface, they might not be right for you.
. - Sleep Number Beds – these products use inflatable air pressure spaces inside the mattress. I love the fact that you can change their level of firmness to suit your specific tastes.
. - Firm vs. Plush – this is the softness or firmness of the mattress you want. You’ll find some described as extra plush, plush, firm, or extra firm.
Start With The Best and Work Your Way Down
Once you visit the mattress store, take as much time as possible in testing the product.
Why? Well, you can quickly judge whether a bed is comfortable or not if you lay down on it!
One of the best methods is starting with the high-end products all the way down.
Although you may be taking the salesperson ‘for a ride,’ the main point is simply testing the different levels of comfort offered by various models.
Eventually, you’ll know which product to choose based on your budget and how cozy it feels.
Haggling is Good!
So now you’ve tested different mattresses, and you’ve found the most comfortable one. However, now you have to deal with the price.
Here, I should point out that some mattress retailers provide no-haggle pricing. Instead, they’ll try to get more money from you through warranties and accessories.
I would, therefore, advise you to shop in any of the major mattress chains where the price is always flexible. You can ask for the price and then propose something different.
I’ve previously negotiated for an affordable mattress price on a model which I initially thought was too expensive.
Have you started mattress hunting yet? By following these tips, your shopping experience will be quite comfortable. Armed with this information, you won’t regret any choice that you make plus you’ll end up getting a long-lasting product at a great price!
