Halloween can be scary – scary expensive. But don’t fret, there are ways to save money by having a budget-friendly Halloween. We jotted down some ideas below!

Save on the Costume

Why spend so much money on a new costume that you will only use once? Instead, look for other good and cheap alternatives like:

• Using hand-me-downs
• Buying second-hand
• Checking for costumes at goodwill

Save on Decoration

Some people go all out with Halloween decorations and spend thousands of dollars to create an intricate, spooky set-up. But alas, as good frugal ladies, we do not spend money so frivolously. Instead, we go for the good-looking but cheap options, including:

• Coming up with cheap, fun ideas like these
• Going the DIY route
• Using dollar store items
• Buying second-hand

Save on the Party

Halloween parties are extremely fun, especially if everyone comes dressed up in costume. You can easily make an affordable Halloween party while still ensuring everyone enjoys themselves. Just make sure to do these:

• Make the party a potluck – food & drinks will be everyone’s responsibility
• For music, use Youtube playlists or make a playlist
• Keep the rooms dark so that limited decoration is needed
• Go for Halloween DIY party decorations

Save on Trick-or-Treating

Candies and chocolates can be expensive, especially when demand is high before Halloween. There are options that can help you lower your trick-or-treating costs, such as:

• Buying smaller candies and chocolates. Kids will be getting such an overwhelming amount of sweets, that there’s no reason to feel guilty. (I would even debate that you’re doing them a favor!)
• Looking for budget-friendly alternatives such as candies that are not name brands.
• Waiting last minute – supermarkets will try to sell cheap to empty their shelves.
